Film screening | Distinction Earned: Cape Breton Boxing’s Golden Era

The CBRL will feature a screening of the new documentary film, Distinction Earned: Cape Breton Boxing’s Golden Era by Charles Currie.

Cape Breton Island was once a boxing mecca producing multiple Canadian champions including George “Rockabye” Ross, Tyrone Gardiner and Blair Richardson. There has been a resurgence in boxing lately in the local area and this film highlights our rich pugilist past.

The documentary runs approx. 22 minutes and will transport the viewer to industrial Cape Breton in the mid-20th century, where boxing flourished against the backdrop of the steel plant and coal mines. Paul MacDougall one of the film’s writers will have a question and answer period after the film.

All are welcome. Free of charge.
