Join the Read-a-Thon Challenge for Indie Bookstore Day

About this Event

Indie Bookstore Day Read-a-thon Challenge:

These are a few of our favourite things: books, reading, and community. Those favourite things are what motivate us to do what we do at On Paper Books. April 24th, 2021 is Independent Bookstore Day, and to celebrate we wanted to do something fun, and centred around reading. We also wanted to team up with some folks that are motivated to do what they do because books, reading, and community are some of their favourite things too. So in partnership with the very great Cape Breton Regional Library we are hosting the first annual Indie Bookstore Day Read-a-thon Challenge.

How it Works:

On April 24th we invite you to read for an hour, and up to 24 hours. You can share your read-a-thon activities by posting about it online and sharing the hashtag #cbreads2021

You can also join our the OPB & CBRL Readathoners Facebook Group

Once signed up you will be entered into a draw for excellent goodies from On Paper Books, Cape Breton Regional Library, and other local businesses.

On April 24th the James McConnell Memorial Library will have spaces set up for those taking part in the read-a-thon to get their read on. Also we are pleased to have someone from the library visit On Paper Books with titles to take out. Also, also: we have a fine selection books to add to your personal library.

We invite participants to pay-what-they-can to take part in this event. All proceeds from the read-a-thon go to the Cape Breton Regional Library.

As well as signing up via Eventbrite you can sign up at On Paper Books, and at your local Cape Breton Regional Library branch. You can make a pay-what-you-can contribution in person at the above mentioned spots.

Where to read-a-thon:

You can complete your read-a-thon activities in the comfort of your own home, a favourite cafe, a bench in a park, the grass of a meadow–choose your own adventure. The library and On Paper Books will not be open for 24 hours to host reading, so if you are accepting the full challenge a space that accommodates that amount of time is best.
