PRESS RELEASE

January 10, 2024: For Immediate Release

Florence Library Closing

Cape Breton Regional Library has faithfully served the Northside for 73 years. Due to the changing needs of the community and our organization, we have made the difficult decision to close the Florence branch. Historically, use of the Florence branch has been below average; however, since 2017, there has been a 63% decrease in usage.

We regret any inconvenience this may cause for active members of the Florence Library. We encourage library members to visit our other locations for the same high-quality service with an even greater selection of materials and extended hours of operation. Two library branches, North Sydney and Sydney Mines, are within a three to eight-kilometre radius of the Florence Library. Both locations are open six days a week. In addition, the CBRL Bookmobile will have a community stop at the Florence Legion beginning on Thursday, April 4th, from 9:30 am to 10:30 am.

If visiting another branch poses a challenge, please contact us at info@cbrl.ca or by phone at 902-562-3279, and library staff would be happy to help you explore alternative ways to receive library materials and services.

The library will remain open for picking up holds and Internet access until Thursday, March 21st, 2024. In the coming weeks, the collection of materials at the Florence Library will be moved to headquarters and distributed to other branches.

We want to thank all of the members and employees of the Florence Library, past and present, for their patronage and support over the years, and we look forward to continuing to serve your community.
