Summer Reading Program
Discover a summer of fun at the library!
Each summer, the Cape Breton Regional Library offers the Summer Reading Program, a free program for children of all ages in partnership with TD Bank and Library and Archives Canada.
Register at any CBRL branch or bookmobile from June 23 to August 18. Children who read ten or more library books or for ten or more hours over the summer will receive a free book of their choice, a small prize, and a ballot for a chance to win family prizes. Read more than ten books to earn even more ballots. Library books, magazines, eBooks, and audiobooks all count, and so does reading aloud to someone or being read to.
This year’s family prizes include:
- a LEGO prize pack
- a board game prize pack
- a bike
- YMCA weeklong passes
- Two Rivers Wildlife Park family day pass
- Family pizza party at Boston Pizza Sydney
- NS Museum 2019 family pass
- One night’s stay at the Holiday Inn Sydney Waterfront with pool access
- Fortress of Louisbourg 2019 overnight camping and rookie tour.
CBRL also offers summer reading challenges for teens 12 and up and a program for adults too – ask at your local library for details on this year’s programs.
There will be plenty of fun library programs and events for kids happening throughout the summer, including LEGO, science, crafting, and more. Check the events page for details.
Thanks to all of our Summer Reading sponsors!
