Cape Breton Regional Library

Summer Reading Program

Discover a summer of fun at the library!

Each summer, the Cape Breton Regional Library offers the Summer Reading Program, a free program for children of all ages in partnership with TD Bank, the Library and Archives Canada and Nova Scotia Public Libraries.

This summer youth can register for a Summer Reading & Learning Adventure at any CBRL branch or bookmobile from June 22 to August 17. Children and youth will be eligible to enter ballots after every 300 minutes read for great Family prizes. Library books, magazines, eBooks, and audiobooks all count, and so does reading aloud to someone or being read to.

Family Prizes will be drawn in early September and include:

  • LEGO Prize Package
  • Family Board Game Package
  • a Bike
  • YMCA Week Family Passes
  • Two Rivers Wildlife Park Family Day Pass
  • Family Pizza Party at Boston Pizza Sydney
  • 2020 NS Museum Family Pass
  • Complimentary Room at the Holiday Inn Sydney Waterfront (includes pool access)
  • Fortress of Louisbourg 2020 (overnight camping for up to 4 people plus a kids Rookie Tour)
  • Play Palace – All Day Pass (up to 4 children)

Summer Readers who read 600 minutes will also be able to pick a small prize and book for their efforts and all participants are eligible to enter 2 activity ballots into the Family Prize draw.

CBRL also offers a Summer Reading Challenge for teens 12 and up. Prizes for teens include indigo gift card, cinema money and a gift certificate to Fired Creations The Pottery Painting Cafe.

There will be plenty of fun library programs and events for kids and families happening throughout the summer, including LEGO, science, crafting, robotics, performances, workshops and more.  Check the events page for details.
