RBdigital is Moving to Libby

rb digital is moving to overdrive Libby

Starting Friday February 19th any magazines that CBRL currently offers through RBdigital will be moving to Libby—the free, award-winning reading app from OverDrive.

To make this transition as seamless as possible for you, we’ve provided answers to some FAQs below.

Why did this happen?

Earlier this year, OverDrive, was acquired by global investment firm, KKR, who also own RBdigital Magazines. As a result of the acquisition, all of our magazines from RBdigital will be moved over to Libby/OverDrive on February 19 2021.

How many magazines will I be able to borrow in Libby?

In Libby, you’ll have access to over 3,000 digital magazines with a rolling 3 years of back issues (where available). There are no magazine checkout limits, so you’ll be able to borrow as many as you like.

What will happen to the RBdigital website and app?

You can keep borrowing and reading magazines and/or comics in RBdigital for now. We’ll share an update in RBdigital once you need to switch to Libby for these titles.

What is the borrowing period for magazines on Libby?

Borrowed magazines will expire at the end of their lending periods (7, 14, or 21 days), but you’ll be able to renew them if you need more time to read.

I can only check out 10 items at a time on Libby. Will magazines count toward my limit?

All of our magazines on Libby will be available for unlimited simultaneous use and will not count toward your check out limit. As an added bonus, magazines have no wait lists or holds, so you can enjoy reading them right away.

Can I read e-magazines on my Kobo e-reader?

No, you will not be able to use your kobo e-reader to read our magazines. To read magazines you will need a device that can download the Libby app or use an web browser to read magazines through the Overdrive website.

How will I find magazines on Libby?

If you have already been enjoying Libby, you won’t notice much of a change on Libby other than access to even more great titles for you to borrow. A new  category will be added in the Explore menu for Magazines.

Similar to RBdigital, only the most recent issue of every magazine will appear with links to previous issues available from title details page.

I’m new to Libby. How do I get started?

If you’re new to Libby, we recommend downloading the Libby App to your mobile device from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.   Libby is easy to use and will guide you through the setup process and get you connected to our library in just a few minutes. All you need to get started is your library card number.

What if I won’t be able to use Libby?

Once CBRL’s magazines  move to Libby, if you do  not have a compatible device to download to Libby App you can use the original OverDrive app or  the Nova Scotia Libraries’s OverDrive website instead. These alternatives have the same titles as Libby, but offer slightly different features and device compatibility.
