How to Borrow & Download eBooks & Audiobooks for your Apple device (iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch)
•To get started, you will need a CBRL library card and a wireless Internet connection•
Step 1: Download & Activate the OverDrive® App
•From your device’s home screen, open the App Store and search for OverDrive.
•Follow the on-screen instructions to install the OverDrive application (app) to your device.
•When the OverDrive installation is complete and the app launches, follow the on-screen instructions to create an OverDrive account. (If you are not prompted automatically to create an OverDrive account, tap the menu symbol ☰ and then tap Account and Sign up.)
•Choose the option to “sign up using library card.” In the search box, type “Cape Breton” and select Go. In your search results, tap on “Cape Breton Regional Library.”
•Select Cape Breton Regional Library from the dropdown menu. Enter your library card barcode number and PIN (the last 4 digits of the primary phone number associated with your library account). Tap Sign In.
•The OverDrive app should now be installed on your device and ready to use.
Step 2: Access the Library
•Open the OverDrive app and tap the menu symbol ☰
•Under the My Libraries heading in the menu, tap Add a Library.
•In the search box, type “Cape Breton” and select Search.
•In the search results, select Cape Breton Regional Library and then tap the star next to Nova Scotia Public Libraries to save this library as your preferred library.
•Tap Nova Scotia Public Libraries to visit the eBook/audiobook website.
Step 3: Browse the Collection & Download Titles from the Library
•Click sign in in the upper right-hand corner. Select Cape Breton Regional Library from the drop-down menu and then enter your library card barcode number and PIN (the last 4 digits of your phone number).
•You can find books by entering the title, author, and/or keyword in the search box in the upper right-hand corner, or you can browse by subject or collection using the menu at the top of the page.
•To check out a title, tap Borrow. If an item is checked out by someone else, tap Place a hold to receive an e-mail notification when it becomes available.
•After tapping Borrow, you will see a pop-up banner toward the top of the page that says: “This title is now checked out to you. See options for the title on your Loans page.” Tap the underlined word Loans to go to your Loans page.
•Next, select Add to app. When the item has finished downloading, to start reading it tap the menu symbol ☰ in the upper left-hand corner and tap Bookshelf.
•You may have up to ten eBooks and/or eAudiobooks checked out at the same time.
•You may customize your borrowing period and check books out for up to 7, 14, or 21 days by visiting the eBook/eAudiobook website, selecting My Account, and tapping Settings.
•The eBooks and eAudiobooks you check out will automatically expire on the due date, so there’s no need to worry about late fines. However, you may return eBooks early. Open the app, and from the Bookshelf screen, press and hold the book you wish to return and select Return to remove the eBook from your account and delete it from your device.
