Summer Reading Club 2023

Join in on the fun starting Saturday, June 24! 

For every 4 books read (3 for teens & adults), earn one entry in the Grand Prize Draw. Everyone who registers is entered into a weekly draw, all summer long! 

All reading counts! We love books, ebooks, audiobooks, magazines & comics. You can also read aloud to someone else, or have someone read aloud to you. 

You can register and log your reads online at cbrlreads.readsquared.com (or through the ReadSquared mobile app). You can also sign up at your local branch and use paper logs. It’s up to you!

Here’s how it works:

For Kids ages 0-13

*13 year-olds can choose to join either the Kids club or the Teen/Adult club.

  • Children can log either minutes read or books read:
  • 2 books = 100 points
  • 1 hour (60 mins) = 100 points
  • Earn one Grand Prize Ballot for every 200 points.
  • Additional points towards ballots can be earning by doing other non-reading activities over the summer (up to a maximum of 200 points)
  • Children can log a maximum of 600 points a day.
  • August 31 2023 is the last day to log books

Grand Prizes for kids are:

  • A gift certificate for one night at the Holiday Inn – Sydney Waterfront (courtesy Holiday Inn)
  • a Bicycle (custom purchased for the winner)
  • Lego Prize Pack

For Teens (13+) and Adults

  • Earn 100 points for every book read
  • Earn one Grand Prize Ballot for every 300 points (3 books read.)
  • Additional points towards ballots can be earning by doing other non-reading activities over the summer (up to a maximum of 200 points)
  • Teens & adults can log a maximum of 200 points (2 books) in one day
  • August 31 2023 is the last day to log books

  • Booklover’s Prize (On Paper Books and Indigo gift cards)

** Prize winners must be residents of CBRM or Victoria Co.

Additional Prizes

  • Additional prize draws for book prizes will take place every Friday in July & August. (this will be a random drawing of all registered participants.)

How to Use the ReadSquared App

  1. Download. Search for READSquared in the Google Play or App Store and click Get or Install
  2. Find your Library. Type in Cape Breton Regional Library and select it.
  3. LogIn/Register. Login if you have previously used READsquared or if you already created a login on the readsquared website. Click register if this is your first time using READsquared.
  4. Log your Reading. Everything is synced between the website and the app. So you can log your books from your phone or your computer, whichever works best for you in the moment.
