The Lone Poet is back this year, with a twist! you may participate in one of TWO ways:
- share a short video reciting an original poem from home
- or add your name to a list of poets to read in-person at the McConnell Library on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at 6:30 pm
The in-person event will have a limited number of live reading spots. It will also showcase the collection of pre-recorded poets sharing from home.
A final compilation video of both the live readings and the at-home videos will be shared via Facebook live following the in-person event.
All poetry must be original and appropriate for all-ages viewing.

Guidelines for submitting a video to the Lone (& not so lone) Poet Project:
- Video submissions will be reviewed by library staff.
- One video submission per person.
- Video submissions cannot be longer than 5 minutes.
- By submitting a video, you grant the Cape Breton Regional Library the right to share on our media platforms. Though published by CBRL, ownership of original work remains with the creator.
- Submitting a video does not guarantee it will be posted.
Tips to help film your video on your phone:
- Prepare the Phone
- Storage – make sure you have enough storage capacity on your phone.
- Battery – charge your batteries!
- Airplane mode
- Tripod
- Horizontal – always shoot horizontally with your phone
- Microphone
- Set the Scene
- Find a quiet place
- Light should be behind the camera, facing the subject
- Tidy the frame
- Do a Test
- Sound
- Video
- B-Roll
- Get creative
- Have fun
- Transfer your video to editing software or share if ready.
