What Happened to Overdrive?
Overdrive is the legacy app and website that offers the same availability to borrow and browse for books as Libby. The app is no longer available to download. The Overdrive website is still available for browsing and borrowing books.
Is Libby Accessible?
Libby is continuing to enhance accessibility features. Visit Libby’s Accessibility Page
Are Kobo and Kindle eReaders compatible with OverDrive?
- Kobo – Yes for ebooks. OverDrive audiobooks and magazines are not compatible with Kobo eReaders.
- Kindle – No (with the exception of the Kindle Fire). The agreement between OverDrive and Amazon that allows for borrowing and downloading library ebooks on a Kindle eReader is restricted to the United States.
- For Kindle Fire: OverDrive’s Libby app is available in the Amazon Appstore. The legacy OverDrive app will continue to work on Kindle Fire tablets until further notice. For more information, please visit OverDrive’s Libby App website.
How can I read library books on my Kobo ereader?
Library books can be borrowed directly from your Kobo eReader by logging into Overdrive from your Kobo.
- Use the Instructions on the Kobo website for setting up Overdrive on your kobo.
- Or download print-friendly instructions for using Overdrive on your Kobo.

What if I can’t log in with my library card?
If you recently received a new library card or haven’t used your card in awhile and you are having trouble logging in, please phone your local library or email info@cbrl.ca
