CBRL Privacy Policy
The Cape Breton Regional Library website (cbrl.ca) is owned and operated by the Cape Breton Regional Library. We are strongly committed to protecting the privacy of our user community. The intent of our privacy policy is to inform you, the user, about the information that we may collect about visitors to our site, how we use that information, and about our disclosure practices.
Site Usage Information
CBRL gathers site usage information from all visitors to its site. This data is used to help determine general usage patterns and to fine-tune layout in order to ensure that our site is as usable and enjoyable an experience as possible. Personal information will not be made public, given, or sold to any third parties.
Individual User Information
Individually identifiable information will not be released to third parties without that individual’s prior consent. Visitors are specifically asked for individually identifiable information when signing up for email newsletters. In surveys, users may be asked for personal interest and demographic information in order to create a more customized user experience; these fields will always be optional.
From time to time, CBRL may wish to inform individual users of community news or make promotional offers. These communications will be delivered only to users who have previously approved them.
Privacy Policies of Digital Resources
In order to access some of the library’s digital content, you are required to create service-specific personal accounts. The library also subscribes to some content services where creating an account is optional.
The library’s third-party services are governed by their own privacy policies and practices, not the library’s. We advise that you consult their Terms of Services and Privacy Policies (see links below) before agreeing to use these services. The library only provides these services with information that verifies that you are a valid library account holder.
