Technology Training

Thank you for your interest in Cape Breton Regional Library’s free technology assistance initiative. We are proud to offer this service to help bridge the digital divide and support community members in becoming more confident and connected through technology. 

Due to high demand and limited spaces, we kindly ask that you review and adhere to the following guidelines to ensure fair and efficient access for all. 

• Each participant may receive up to two (2) free one-on-one assistance sessions per year. This allows us to accommodate as many individuals in our community as possible. One additional session may be provided if space and time permits, for a maximum of three (3 sessions) per year. 
• Each session is limited to a maximum of one (1) hour. 
• Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours in advance. Timely notice allows us to offer the appointment to someone else on the waiting list. 
• Missed appointments without prior notice (“no-shows”) will be counted as one of your sessions. 
• There are no exceptions to these policies, regardless of circumstances, in order to maintain fairness and consistency for all participants. 
• Sessions are intended for basic support and guidance. Staff do not have the capacity to resolve complex or technical issues that require specialized service or repairs. 
• Participants are responsible for bringing their own devices and any necessary login information (e.g., passwords, usernames). 
• Staff are not permitted to assist patrons with online banking or transactions, or with filling out government documents. If assistance is needed, staff can help participants find tutorials and help sites or refer them to an applicable service or program. 
• The library maintains a waiting list for this program. Your name will be added to the list and we will contact you to schedule a booking when available. 
• In the course of providing technology assistance, it may be necessary for staff to operate, change settings, and/or install/update software on a participant’s device.  Cape Breton Regional Library and staff under the library’s supervision are not responsible for equipment malfunction or the loss or transmission of users’ data as a consequence of staff assistance.
