Scriptwriting and the Fundamentals of Storytelling Workshop

No prior creative writing experience necessary — no homework, no tests!

This workshop is an introduction to the art of crafting good stories: stories that engage us, stories that make us laugh, make us cry, and make us stand up and cheer at performance’s end.

Acclaimed actor/writer Alex Poirier, whose HAT credits include The Drowsy Chaperone, Little Shop of Horrors, Pride and Prejudice, Cabaret, and his own self-penned stage show Tough Call, will be your guide for this entertaining and informative exploration of scriptwriting structure — stage plays and screenplays, both — and the crucial elements that make up all your favourite stories, from character and conflict to set-ups and pay-offs (and everything in between). You’ll see how characters, conflict, theme, and plot combine and complement each other to create the movies, shows, and plays you love.
