  • & Membertou Heritage Park

Building on the rich Mi’kmaw tradition of Night Sky stories, Lumiere 2025 presents an immersive installation titled ‘Muin and the Seven Bird Hunters: A Journey.’ The creation of this project will take place in four community workshops led by Mi’kmaw artists helping participants explore Mi’kmaw language, storytelling, and artistic expression through illuminated artworks.

The installation will depict the Mi’kmaq story and constellation of Muin (the Bear) and the Seven Bird Hunters that correspond to the stars of the Big Dipper. The movement of these stars will be simulated through an immersive light display installation, illustrating the narrative of the hunters’ pursuit of Muin across the sky. Elements of the installation will be made from materials, mentorship, and the creative energy and cultural exchange that takes place during the four community workshops.

The combined art from these workshops will become an installation during the Art-At-Night Festival on Sept. 27 from 7pm-midnight!

All workshops are drop-in, free of charge, and for all ages.

This project builds upon the foundation and success of the former Lumière Lantern Parade workshops, expanding into a deeper experience that integrates language, movement, and light-following. The organizers for Lumiere 2025 hope to strengthen new relationships through language and collaboration.

This project is generously supported by Arts Nova Scotia.
