Art Exhibition and Community Event: Sydney

Please join us in celebrating the launch of Hand Papermaking in Libraries: Connecting Art, Stories, and Communities. Over the past year, CBRL has been working with hand papermaker and artist Kristi Farrier to bring this community art project to life, thank to the generous support of Arts Nova Scotia.

Kristi Farrier, of Flying Finch Studio, makes paper from plants and repurposed textiles and transforms them into beautiful and useful objects. In the spring, she taught 37 participants at library-hosted workshops in Sydney, Main-a-Dieu, Baddeck, and Glace Bay how to make paper from their own upcycled textiles and create works of art that tell their story.

Join us Saturday, June 8th from 1-4pm for a full slate of exciting arts programming. Lead artist Kristi Farrier will give a short artist talk about the project and lead a hand papermaking demonstration with help from workshop participants. Workshop participants will also share their experiences and their creations. Community members will also have an opportunity to fold their own handmade paper creation!

All are welcome! Come to view the art and enjoy light refreshments.
