Welcoming Week

hands reaching together in circle, welcoming week.

September 8 to 17, 2023 is Welcoming Week in Canada! Welcoming Week is part of the Government of Canada’s Immigration Matters initiative, and it celebrates the importance of creating welcoming and inclusive places communities for all people, no matter where they come from.

To mark the occasion, CBRL librarians have compiled Welcoming Week book lists for adults, children and teens.

Welcoming Week Books for Adults #ImmigrationMatters

The books on this list explore immigrant, refugee, and newcomer experiences and discuss the social and political issues surrounding immigration. The list includes stories by and about newcomers, many of which focus on immigration from a Canadian context.

Welcoming Week books for Kids and Teens

The books on this list are perfect for learning more about what it feels like to be a newcomer. There are stories by and about immigrants and non-fiction books about what it means to be an immigrant, refugee, or newcomer. Scroll through the list to find titles that are good for kids to teens.

All of these books can be requested and borrowed with a free library card. Sign up online or in person at any CBRL library location.
